The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 好温馨好温柔的电影。每座城市的光影，每个孩童的声音，每段旅途的波折，尽收眼底。华金与小男孩的组合太有爱了(>﹏<)。
我们不能准确表达自己的情绪，我们以为他们不会理解生活困境，我们甚至没有耐心倾听他们的想法与倾诉，我们终究成为了我们曾经讨厌的模样。

好久没在电影院看了，感觉是近几年来不错的一部，重点是透子真的超级帅呜呜呜重燃旧爱T T
看剧情猜大结局，推理越来越少了…父母是法国人但用俄语写note，到最后也没说明作案动机。神奇～
Mike Mills的片子总是如此，影像质感十分出众，但是气质又相对独立，以至于在颁奖季会显得有些曲高和寡。但anyway，说不上为什么，静静看完，明明似乎什么都没有说，却觉得获得了某种疗愈。至少在当下，personally，我很需要这样一部片子。也是我今年颁奖季目前最喜欢的一部片子。
1.喜欢的演员，喜欢的故事，华金凤尼克斯观剧记录:2015 《Her》→2021.1.10《小丑》→2022《呼朋引伴》，不仅角色跨度大，身材变化也大，影片质感也完全不同。2.作为2022年第一部电影，治愈如《如晴天，似雨天》，又有《海边曼彻斯特》的颓丧感，和2021最喜欢的国片《兰心大剧院》一样采用黑白色调，两次失踪，和最后树林里的戏都极其喜欢。今年应该还会补华金的一些片子，被他的魅力征服了。评分:8.5/10。

《呼朋引伴》的故事其实很简单，三个不同的城市组成了三段式的结构，同样也代表了侄子 Jesse和舅舅Johnny之间关系的变化。同时，整个故事中穿插了Johnny为了制作采访录和孩子们的谈话，才是整部电影中最重要的部分。这些年幼的孩子们严肃并且充满哲理地表达着自己关于父母、朋友、人生、世界的看法，居然直抵我们这些所谓成年人的内心深处。这样我们感到自惭形秽。关于这个世界，关于我们自身的真相，成年人已经越来越难以分辨了，但是孩子们却看得一清二楚。
“我们忘记了出生的一切。”“不，你忘了，我没忘。”
