The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 注定是又一段让人印象深刻的启程。独特的时代背景赋予其意义——萧条之后，劫难之前，世界仿佛在变得越发疯狂；然而却依然抓住激情，于动荡中纵情，麻木、忘记还有燃烧。
2.全片的荒诞，疯狂，混乱令人印象深刻
前四十分钟仿各时代风格形式有新意，道化服设置华丽，后面的剧情流于平淡，结尾抢救小孩溺水把我看笑了。看的时候觉得有较好的复古质感，但看完后好像什么都没留下。

几个剧场版延续很深。 虽然没看过正式动漫，但光看剧场版就很赞。

时间确实有点长，且认为叫“一战后的德意志” 或者“二战前的德国”，要开始战争前，社会就是各种动荡和混乱，然后好事份子就出现了。
来自魏玛共和国的人生切片。同时也是古典和现代，视觉与叙事风格的拼贴。青年知识分子的彷徨、窘迫和小小的浪漫。一点点命运感、仪式感（“十分钟之后，他的爱人将会出现”）和悲剧性（最后被意外击沉），其实这或许是一种创作者的手下留情：如不在意外中被击沉，就将在时代中被击沉。

能在这个时代排出如此优秀的作品，德国是让人尊敬的，喜欢法比安远眺的眼神，最后在自己的理想中溺亡真的太悲哀了！总觉得魏玛共和国时期混乱的政治、萧条的经济、败坏的道德促使了纳粹的崛起，那个时代本该需要法比安的！
第一次看露天电影，从弗里西里德大街步行至博物馆岛，不远处是可望而不可及的晚霞。露天电影场地被各式古老建筑物包裹着，这种时刻我内心的感受往往非常迟钝，我确信这段经历在不久后的将来回忆起来一定带有一幸福感，在当下这种美好静谧的感觉简直不真实得让人觉得这是一场梦，不真实到我的感受不由自主地抽离出去。荧幕上和荧幕下是不同历史背景下的柏林，不同世界里的柏林。沉醉在这夜里，结局让人意难平。
10.0 #2021IKSV# 情绪的力量明显强过广播里面呓语一般的政治背景，前者甚至强到攫取后者为它所用，暴力地在力场的交界处形成偏折。情绪的共振在跳接中完成，记忆、现实和令人惧怕的预言以图像的形式交替出现；背景的渲染则是通过多重的材质和底片：对同一个事件用不同的材质来表现，本质是对事件的多重讲述，是重复。所以，《法比安》在此意义上构建了自由的时间和停滞的时间，而活力则在情绪的缝隙和流动与停滞的缝隙中迸发出来。爱是松弛的，它可以表现为骑自行车回家绕的远路，也可以表现为眼泪掉进咖啡杯的那小于一秒钟。
