The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 30/100。#Venice#前半段特别惊艳，尤其是以开头一段囿于狭小空间内却呈现出时间变换的长镜头为代表的一批高级炫技，充分彰显了导演对于影像掌控力的自信。然而在短暂的高级之后整部电影便迅速进入了令人闹心的阶段：沉浸在血腥作呕的画面与吵到令人神经衰弱的音效中的观众还要接受一套陈旧的直男式说教，黑帮老大在经历人生渡劫后的自我觉醒这样看了就不想再多看一眼的情节到了2021年居然还有人大肆渲染，看完真的觉得威尼斯的选片委员会真的品味有问题。而女性在其中依然迂腐地充当着在身体和心理上被双重凌辱的工具，更是让人无法忍受。 @2021-09-10 23:34:17 @2021-12-23 01:33:14
剧本老套，情节错乱 不值得一看
很朴实的表达，很有烟火气~作为非科班出身，导演还蛮有灵气的~爸爸妈妈的表演很加分，反观女主“演”的痕迹很重
三星半，前半个小时三星，后一个小时四星，均一下三星半。前半个小时想要铺垫的东西太多，使很多设计都变得有些符号化，不太立体，包括夏天之前的办公室恋情，以及闺蜜结婚的惆怅等，甚至爸爸走丢，篇幅有些多而平均，反而失去重点，其实不需要面面俱到都一一刻画出来，总之前半个小时需要耐下性子慢慢看下去，后一个小时就会有惊喜。从爸爸病情加重之后，现实和想象之间亦真亦假的场景切换，角色内心与现实焦虑的戏剧冲突在导演的镜头前和浅浅的晋剧背景音乐下一幕又一幕的呈现出来，很具有冲突性，有点意思，尤其是最后推开老宅父亲母亲的影子相扶着走进老屋，到后来黄泉路上一览，以及最后伴随着墙上钟表的滴答声回到现实，实在是精彩。总的来说，导演的运镜和摄影构图非常优秀，老演员们演技很有带入感，年轻演员还需要加油，前半段能再打磨下会更好
乌克兰能拍出这样的挺不错了，真的是文化差异么，才导致现在的局面，剧情挺老套的，转场有手法
没有牛姐圣诞要你命打底，翻版真爱至上在东亚地区很明显的水土不服，建议1.5倍速打发时间即可。其实奔着李阵郁来的，可惜戏份太少，倒是姜河那角色特别可爱，还有不得不说偶像和演员真有壁，允儿已经算是idol天花板，可在大荧幕还是比韩志玟差不少。

群星荟萃的跨年电影，每条线都挺有意思的，但因篇幅限制都点到为止，这种故事如果拍成几集的电视剧可能会更好一点。姜sky一个人承包了仅有的一些笑点。
#70th IFFMH Online# 前入围2021威尼斯地平线单元。其实最早知道导演也是在戛纳时候看到影评人周专门声援在监狱中绝食抗议的他，这才是第一次看到他的作品（联合导演那部在柏林怎么都挤不出时间去看……）。这部片真是惊艳，要不是结尾太坑必须送五星。应该叫贾科长来看看什么叫江湖儿女（对就得拉踩一下）……影片开始那段室内炫技的伪长镜头绝对是堪称世界影坛十年级别的名场面，没见过这么交代人物前史的，连看三遍还是服气。影片明显参考了很多美国黑帮片的剧作和拍法，但化用得妥帖无比，简直是乌克兰土地里生长出来一般的毫无痕迹。导演虽说是剧场出身，有些明显舞台剧感的地方。男演员本身就是个知名混混，能调教成这样，导演真够厉害。#年度佳作候选#
CJ出品的。虽然不喜欢棒子，但是韩国男人是真的好看啊。一起之等医生跟女主表白，因为算命的关系？开头就觉得像真爱至上，女主的死党我很可以！高中生也可以！想知道那个酒店原型是哪一家。灯光投影居然没有房间亮着灯也太诡异了吧！

公园里的长镜头很棒。
去年的同类型是新年前夜 说实话真爱至上也算不上什么影史经典 但确实是比较符合节日氛围的群像电影 hgr怎么这么热衷于打造本土版真爱至上？
映后知道了秦牧原来是扫黄打黑的警察，演妈妈的演员的老伴也是阿尔兹海默症。
其余故事都是走温情路线，大毛病没有，就是老套，虽然也可以理解大过年的，就是想看这种明星杂烩商业片，但真的不能为了温情而温情，让角色过于无脑
思考（反抗）着生活的行动派是真正的tuff guy，可惜结尾还是草率了。
东施效颦了属于是。发现此类贺岁片常用曲目：卡农、友谊地久天长、铃儿响叮当。本来想忍着不哭的，最后还是哭了。人类有那么多美好的感情，就让他们一直存在于电影中吧
处处可见《Love actully》的影子，但是又改动得很突兀，很浪费演员。
