The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 2021年我的华语电影前三
“得不到最好的，情愿换条路走”年少的轻狂，买单的只能是自己，李小姐太要强，可是不要强她也不是李小姐。
的确是一个情感细腻的电影，都在细微之处，而生活大多时候哪有波澜壮阔，都是细节构成的。。。
独立女性
昨天看完电影《爱情神话》，今天还在回味。
外地人在电影中感受到了上海的那种小资生活，西方文化的渗入。电影名说是爱情神话，实则代表以爱情为主的精神世界。
最近讲生活爱情的，已经不再讲单身+单身，也不是单身+离婚，而是进化到讲离婚+离婚了。同期还有《小敏家》。一线城市，对离婚和不婚的女性是草原，对结婚的女性简直就是炼狱。
20220119 对我来说有三个亮点: 1. 全沪语对话 2. 多上海演员，包括演徐峥妈妈和马伊琍妈妈的，也都是我熟悉的上海演员。除了那个演儿子的小朋友一口洋泾浜上海话，但也正好说明现在上海话越来越式微的情况 3. 借三位女演员的嘴怼男人眼中的刻板女性形象，可太爽了！
羡慕！优秀！游刃有余！能把自己想要的拍出来，真的不容易，各种不容易！未来可期！
走了太多下坡路？那就爬山去吧！所谓人生，忽然爱情，大抵如此。
2021影院最好看的电影！在结尾收获了属于我的爱情神话🤒
平安夜太适合看这个电影了。太能体会老白了，哈哈哈哈哈哈哈，断舍离，不都是在上课嘛，活到老，学到老。我也想像老乌一样，跟朋友喝一场，然后安然死去（不过我好像没朋友…现在的唯一目标：健康活到四十，然后死去，捐献遗体。无双太美了～而且居然有红拂夜奔！还是要相信神话，为情绪加一星吧。
段子集合很好笑，在这届年轻人眼里人到中年和工作就是生活之重了，写出了一个sitcom版本的理想梧桐区
爱情/生活小品，兜兜转转也好像没绕出“555街区”。角色不多，每个都刻画的很好，令人印象深刻。观影体验流畅，很多场景都似曾相识，甚至能从白老师的露台上望见自己住的地方。只是生活好像也没那么多神话时刻，更多像载着老乌驶出弄堂时候颠簸了一下的救护车。
其实，只要是成熟的人的爱情，都有动人的力量，不分老年人，中年人还是年轻人。
每个角色都挺喜欢，作为一个年轻女性，居然会觉得老白这个角色太有魅力了，比徐峥本人有魅力太多。
还有什么好讲的？都给我狠狠得吹一波！都这年头这市场了还能把家长里短鸡毛蒜皮拍出了费里尼+伍迪艾伦的味道来还想咋滴？节奏牛得一批 没有浪费一个镜头 几首插曲也出现得恰到好处 最重要的似 阿拉就住在太原路 每天遛狗必经过片中的弄堂街道 亲切得不得了好不辣～
人们正是因为喜欢神话才向往爱情，可惜真实世界的爱情里很难存在神话。奢侈的东西被标榜以平价，平民消费观贯穿在这群隐形富豪，这种对观众亲民的爱情真是个神话！https://movie.douban.com/review/14107197/
