The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 芬奇造出杰夫，只为了替他照顾那条狗。对于芬奇来说，狗是有生命的生物，是这个末世最为珍贵的。然而，对于杰夫来说，芬奇创造了它，他就是它的父亲。芬奇对父亲有种羁绊，而他同样把羁绊给了杰夫，尽管它只是个机器人。在我看来，表面是讲人和狗的感情，实际上又回到了亲情和别离。最后，芬奇教杰夫给狗狗丢球，到杰夫像芬奇那样给狗狗丢球，它们一起来到了旧金山，在大桥上留下了三人到的痕迹。一路上，从路边一簇一簇草到一大片草、飞舞的蝴蝶……看到了希望，也让人泪流满面。
结尾加分（所以加了一个星变4星），前面很闷（太套路），结局太棒（人摔进水里比得上灌篮漫画结局），咸鱼脚梗很喜感。紧跟结局那首ed的配乐真是好听的不行！

最后舞狮比赛还可以，但前面剧情也太拉垮了！几度看到想离场的地步，除了尴尬的笑点就是尴尬的燃点，这种空中楼阁的假燃真的很莫名其妙。剧组看来是一点没给编剧钱啊......狮子做得还蛮不错的，主角团脑袋也还行。剧情上哪怕再多一点用心这片子也能提升不止一个档次啊，我甚至觉得剧组是为了反衬略微普通的结尾把前边故意写烂的。
好简单却感人的故事。三个主角之间原本空白的空间一点点地被描画上连接线，越来越浓越来越浓，最后被紧紧绑在一起。剧本好棒，大概是机器管家之后最感人的了。

汉克斯独角戏。对于爱的教育上，不如超能查派，但也还是可看的片子，有动人的瞬间。
其实是个特别简单的故事，但是特别容易让人哭崩了，以为这是一个末日科幻版的《荒岛余生》，汉克斯表演孤独感已经出神入化了，但整个故事最后落在一个Jeff去思考什么是人的时候，又完全上升了 一个层面。

总算在大银幕上看到了。狮头一挂，字幕将出未出，乌迪内已经掌声雷动；彩蛋之后，全场响起第二轮掌声。
吐槽一句，这种科幻公路片难道不比《无依之地》看着舒服？
我多希望更好地利用了过去的时间
故事很励志温馨，没有过分煽情，一切都恰到好处。对末世的描绘以及人性的险恶，都为影片增色不少。
科幻只是个壳，还是煽情公路片，看完会感觉这个文本是非常薄的。几乎全靠配乐强化抒情功能甚至有点喧宾夺主了。前面的风格是十分明朗的，太多的爵士乐串烧，后面随着剧情略有起承转合最后仍然是煽情平铺。同样的形式所指，没有《我是传奇I Am Legend》或者《月球 Moon》这样的沉郁和深刻，套接一个末世情境，核心不是在臭氧层消失殆尽之后的沉痛反思，而是在此情景下，一个临终人类及其所造机器人和动物（狗）的所谓信任融合。从这一点上看，这部片子是在尝试人文主义的。7.4

一人，一机器，一条狗，在世界末日里享受生活，简简单单，却让人心情舒畅，倍感惬意。这是一部几乎没有高潮的片子，但当狗狗把球丢在芬奇面前时，我却热泪盈眶。
汤姆汉克斯一生致力于让各种智商线上的美国人，都能不耗费脑细胞的理解他上演的每一个故事。并且极力在最低道德水平线以上高高跃起，以免不小心触到任何可能存在的底。真是辛苦惨了。
